Thomas (Tom) Akers is an award winning Virginia artist whose family has long standing roots in that state and has included some noted painters. He studied art and painting at American University in Washington, DC; and has a background as an illustrator and a forensic artist. Usually painting in watercolors and acrylics, works by the artist are in private and corpoate collections in the United States and England. The artist is represented by the Atlanta Art Gallery in Atlanta, Ga. and Studio Eleven in Lexington, Va. He is also an artist member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia. The artist resides with his wife, Jo-Anne in the mountains of south-western Virginia; and many of his painting are a realistic and contemporary record of Appalachian life based on the people that live in the surrounding towns and mountains.
