Grant Nimmo - This Is Woven Piper: Paintings For The Funnel

Grant Nimmo continues his long-term fascination with the mysteries and secrets of the natural world in a mesmerizing new series of small paintings of remote and untouched landscapes and of the strange characters who inhabit such places. Eccentric hippies and mountain-folk once again appear throughout his surreal picturesque dreamscapes which unite fantasy, mysticism and the psychedelic, whilst an intriguing and playful imagery is imbued with an intense sense of quiet, peace and an underground liberation from mundane human concerns.

Michaela Gleave - I Would Bring You The Stars

Michaela Gleave’s multi-media 2011 solo exploration, once again tests the boundaries of our everyday perceptual experience, allowing us to experience the processes by which we comprehend reality in various forms. The ephemeral nature of her new installation expresses Gleave’s celebratory gesture of the persistent optimisms we encounter every day. These prosaic works continue to have relevance and perhaps are rendered even more significant by the immeasurable nature of their presence and purpose, despite the often-concrete requirements of contemporary life.

Project 24!
http://project24hours.tumblr.com/
On Saturday 9th April at 12:00pm the challenge begins, each artist will be given a single line from a poem written by Cypriot wordsmith Stavros Lambrakis. It will then be up to each artist to produce a single piece of artwork that visualises that line. Creative freedom and expression will be left entirely up to each artist.

We will have 24 artists creating 24 works of art that interpret 24 lines from a poem… in just 24 hours! On Sunday 10th April at 12:00pm, a full 24 hours later, all of the artwork will have been submitted and the challenge will end!

The culmination of Project 24 will be in the designing and production of a stunning book displaying each work of art organised in accordance with each line of the poem, thus working as a unique, visual narrative!

Throughout the event, we will be collaborating with each artist and documenting their progress. As well as streaming live footage of the entire event, we will keep our viewers updated on the artwork as it develops

The event takes place in our studio in Dalston, London, but you can still participate in the event online. We are not asking that our contributors stay awake for the entire duration of the event, once you have been given your unique line, you can take as long or as little time as is required, we will do the rest!

We will be working alongside a whole range of different artists from photographers to abstract painters but if you are an artist, professional or enthusiast, and would also like to take part in this exciting event. If you would like to get your art work seen by a large, eclectic audience and to have your creative talent showcased in a book, then please let us know as soon as possible!

Sam Grigorian – Breaking Ranks

Breaking Ranks features the tactile, minimalist experiments in decollage of Berlin-based artist Sam Grigorian, who has developed a unique method of treating and layering paper. Grigorian delights in paper which is rich in history – torn, stained, yellowed, cracked – fragments of handmade paper, parchment or off-cuts which reveal the marks and traces of their origins and their use.

Through the intimate processes of ripping, scratching, staining and layering, Grigorian seeks to get at the hidden realities of the paper, exposing the structures beneath the surface. Through a repertoire of simple, geometrical forms and monochromatic colours, Grigorian creates intense visual narratives that are both abstract and uncanny.

Jesse Marlow – OAO (One And Only)

Jesse Marlow’s dynamic new photographic series, OAO (One And Only), documents the
explosion of graffiti in the Central Australian Desert as a vehicle of expression for
indigenous youths. Marlow’s fascination lies in the unexpected directness of Australian desert
graffiti, compared with the elusive nature of street art in the world’s big cities. In Marlow’s words, “The most intriguing thing about indigenous graffiti is that taggers usually write their full name and the community they’re from.”

Through a series of vibrant photographic vignettes, OAO (One And Only) illustrates the
manner in which graffiti has evolved into the contemporary equivalent of traditional
indigenous rock-painting: the voice of “bored and restless youth” in remote Australia trying to make themselves heard.
