first Africa-American artist to represent the United States in a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 1997. His exhibit there subsequently had a national tour and received critical acclaim. Colescott’s father was from New Orleans but the artist was born in Oakland and educated at the University of California in Berkeley. He also studied and taught in Europe. Robert Colescott has been on the faculty at several major universities in the United States. He has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe and is included in over fifty public collections…
