Reinhoud d’Haese was born in Grammont, Belgium. From 1960 he used his first name only.
As a sculptor making sensitive partly surrealistic sculptures of cobber he was introduced to the COBRA-movement by his friend Pierre Alechinsky. He was one of the first to move into one of two COBRA houses in Brussels. Exhibited at several COBRA exhibitions, among thes the last one in Liège in 1951…

In 1958 – when the COBRA movement had already been disbanded for some time – he finally decided to continue his research independently.  From that moment on, he used varied materials like metals, pewter and glass,  producing a large “family” of mysterious and amusing beings, like characters from children’s fairy tales, perfectly in tune with the language of the COBRA group…
