I filmed myself walking in an in-between space. Unlike usually, the more I came closer to the camera, the smaller my image became till I disappeared.
She lives between Beirut and Amsterdam, where she is currently a resident artist at the RijksaKademie. Al Solh has been working on issues related to Lebanese immigrants’ stories, as well as the Lebanese socio-political and religious conflicts. Her approach is not realistic but fictional, or even fantastic. While transforming dramatic situations into ironical ones, Al Solh links issues of identity with aesthetics. In the video installation As if I don’t fit there , for example, she explores her fear of ceasing to be an artist, and her doubts about her place in the art world…
But it didn’t succeed, the
the subject didn’t fit the Opera form.
I remember once I was following the news for the Women’s Day in Lebanon, and believe it or not, there were more men being interviewed on TV then women. Moving to Amsterdam has allowed me to look at the difference between Radical Muslim women, and free women. I am very much interested in the development of Women’s Rights, and I know that no one will push it other then the Women themselves, but that doesn’t mean that we should reject men and refuse to work with them! And that doesn’t mean that in this Museum for Women for example, men are not allowed to have an opinion!…Online video
