I consider myself living in the periphery of a peripheral city (Iasi), of a peripheral country (Romania) from a peripheral region (South-Eastern Europe). That’s why, I started to organize since 1997
the Periferic/Peripheral Contemporary Arts Biennial, in the idea to collect artistic attitudes related to PERIPHERY and its relationship to the CENTER. PERIFERIC is focusing on the Turkish Bath of Iasi where I want to organize, together with my collaborators, a center for contemporary culture…
Periferic project was initiated in 1997 by the Romanian artist Matei Bejenaru. In the beginning it was a performance event which grew up in the first 3 editions (1997, 1998 and 1999) to a level of an international regional contemporary art event.
