Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, german painter and founding member of the Die Brucke art movement in Dresden in 1905. The name Brucke came from the sentence of Nietche: A man is a bridge and not an end. Schmidt-Rottluff was a friend of Erich Heckel since highschool in 1901. They studied architecture in Dresden but both left their studies after they started Die Brucke.
