This is one of Bissier’s late works. It is painted in tempera on a cloth prepared by the artist, which is the reason for its uneven edge. Bissier mixed his own pigments to produce rich, transparent colours. Influenced by oriental paintings, Bissier applied paint delicately, with a similar importance placed on line.
