Kein simples oder anspruchloses Stillleben ist hier zu sehen, sondern das Ergebnis einer konsequenten künstlerischen Entwicklung. Im Laufe seines Schaffens klart Schrimpfs Formensprache auf und beruhigt sich immer mehr. Er thematisiert hauptsächlich das kleinbürgerliche, proletarische Alltagsleben der Vorstädte, und betont dabei die Würde des Menschen, aber auch seine Einsamkeit. Zunehmend spezialisiert er sich auf Landschafts-darstellungen und Stillleben, die mit oder ohne menschliche Figuren ausgestattet sind, jedenfalls immer mystisch entrückt scheinen…
