Rossetti founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, with John Everett Millais (1829-1896) and William Holman Hunt (1827-1910) and they were soon joined by other young painters, poets, and critics. After showing two oil paintings with the Brotherhood he turned to drawing and watercolour, relying on patrons such as John Ruskin (1819-1900).
