In 1897 Soffici enrolled at the Accademia after moving with his parents to Florence and later studied at the Scuola Libera del Nudo. He moved to Paris in 1900 and remained there for seven years, his circle of friends including Braque, Derain, Picasso, Gris and Guillaume Apollinaire, whom he met through his work for Symbolist journals.
