Raining Cats and Dogs

Juried Exhibition:  Help us shower CMPD Animal Care and Control with appreciation. Charlotte ARTery and Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control present an opportunity for you to show your love for our favorite pets. Cats and dogs are the subject matter…and how you choose to represent them is up to you!   This exhibit will work together with the animal shelter to provide items they need to continue their important work.  Just to name a few contributions this agency provides: a  pet adoption  program, spay and neuter services, rabies clinics, microchip clinics and a database to track them, humane education clinics, and they have partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to help low income families with food for their pets. Entrance to the opening night of the show will be any item on their wish list (provided in marketing material and on the ARTery website).  Donations will be showered onto the Char Meck Animal  Control on the night of the opening. Help us celebrate through art all they do for us and for the animals we all love.

Entry Procedures:

Subject matter: Cats and/or Dogs

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years or older, working in the following disciplines: painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, fiber, glass, ceramics, wood, photography, metal and mixed media. All work submitted must be original.  

Image entry will be by JPEG digital files. Review will be by digital image only, submitted by email or CD through regular mail. Submitted CD’s will not be returned. Images of up to three works may be submitted.  All images must be in JPEG format and must include the artist’s name and title of work submitted (last name, title, jpg #). JPEGs must be 300 dpi and must be sized at 1000-1500 pixels in the longest direction. Submitted photos may be used on the Charlotte ARTery website and Facebook page, so high quality images will best reflect your work. Additionally, only the highest quality images will be used on any publicity materials generated.

A non-refundable fee of $35 must accompany each entry (allowing submission for 3 pieces). Please note: If you would like to submit more than 3 images for application, please add $10 for each additional image over 3.

Checks should be made payable to the Charlotte ARTery. On-line submissions can use  PayPal.

Entries may be submitted by CD and mailed to: Charlotte ARTery, PO Box  34094, Charlotte NC 28234-4094  and submitting   on-line in jpeg form.  Please be sure entry form is complete with title, dimensions (HxWxD format), medium, price, (or insurance value if NFS), and contact information.

                                                                                                                                        Guidelines:

Work need not be for sale. A commission of 40 percent will be taken on all works sold during the exhibition, or on any work sold within 30 days as a result of the exhibition. Payment will be mailed within 30 days of the exhibition closing. All artists should supply their own insurance for the run of the show, if desired.

Unsold works may be picked up by the artist on Saturday, April 27, 2013.  Any shipped work will be returned within 2-4 weeks of the show’s closing in the original packing. All return shipping will be paid by the artist. Please include a pre-paid  return shipping label in your packing.

Artists are required to sign a Loan Agreement with Terms and Conditions if accepted. Charlotte ARTery reserves the right to reproduce the supplied images for media and publicity purposes with credit given to the artist. All artwork must remain on display for the entire exhibition.

All entries must be of original design and created by the artist submitting the work. Artists submitting non-original work will not be accepted in future exhibitions. All artwork must be clean, securely wired (no saw tooth hangers), and ready to hang for exhibition.  Any special requirements, pedestals, or equipment to install pieces must be provided by artist. If you are shipping a piece that needs a pedestal, let us know. We have a few we can use. The gallery reserves the right to reject artwork that differs from submitted images.

Application materials must be received by Midnight EST on Monday, March 9, 2013. Please be sure you have included all of the following:

Delivery of Accepted Works:

 All artists are responsible for shipping their work to the gallery in sturdy, reusable boxes or crates to be received by 5PM, Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Return shipping for US entries must be prepaid and enclosed with artwork. Charlotte ARTery will not be responsible for any damages incurred in transit. Accepted artwork may also be hand delivered with a deadline of 5pm, Monday, April 1, 2013. After exhibit closes, artwork may be picked up by arrangement or return shipped by prepaid label in the original container to the street address provided
