Maritza first started painting shortly before her third birthday, after seeing her Father work with brushes and paint. Through Elementary, she earned many art competitions working with modeling clay, and with that, a scholarship to go to college. She graduated with a BFA in 1985 and a MFA in 1990. Since 17, she was an art instructor for several institutions and for public schools; amongst those,       Magisterio Nacional, La Universidad Veracruzana and El Instituto Veracruzano de Cultura y Las Artes.
Her first works included sculptures, castings in metals, wood and linoleum carvings.  Important exhibits at The Museum of Antropology in Xalapa, Universidad Veracruzana, IVEC and at
many National competitions.   Maritza created maquettes with themes related to childhood, community and traditions. Throughout the years Maritza became more interested in two-dimensional techniques, from which acrylic is one of her favorite mediums.  Maritza's natural tendency is surrealistic, but  there is no rule to that, depending on the scene, the mood or the  occassion, art can take unexpected turns.

Maritza's work is collected internationally. Her artwork is found in Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Japan, and all across the US and Mexico.
