Bula Barua’s Sand Nigga is a fictional collection of short stories, poems, and unsent letters, written by a man and a woman to each other, over the course of 1 year. The source of the book’s title is revealed in the Story 6, a sharply poignant tale, which addresses imposed racism by older generations upon their unwilling and younger counterparts. In the story God Within, Bula’s finely tuned ear for combining irony and humor with compassion is very telling, as story’s protagonist asks society.
