Flanders House presents... Chris Dercon in Conversation Tuesday December 6, 2011 - 8pm - Tate Modern, Starr Auditorium, London Clustering Art Exhibitions/Festivals beyond borders? Visual Arts Flanders 2012 and Flanders House are happy to host an inspiring evening with Chris Dercon and the curators of 5 large contemporary art events happening in Belgium next year: Phillip Van den Bossche, Mirjam Varadinis, Philippe Van Cauteren, Paul Robbrecht and Katerina Gregos. Visual Arts Flanders 2012 is proud to present Beaufort04 (Belgian coast), TRACK (Ghent), Middelheim Museum (Antwerp), Manifesta9 (Genk) and Newtopia (Mechelen). The convenient geographic location and the shared focus on contemporary art of these five events have triggered the creation of an international communication platform that comprehends all of these appealing events into one coherent cluster. In 2012 Belgium’s neighbouring countries also offer major happenings of contemporary art such as dOCUMENTA (13) (Kassel, Germany), London 2012 - the Cultural Olympiad (UK), lille3000: Fantastic (France) and Mono2012 (Centre Pompidou-Metz, France together with Mudam, Luxembourg). Visual Arts Flanders 2012 is convinced that the high quality character of each of its five exhibitions represented will persuade the professional and touristically inclined art visitor to also stop over in Flanders when travelling to art events in Belgium’s neighbouring countries. The curators of the 5 events from the Visual Arts Flanders 2012 cluster will sit down in London with Chris Dercon to present their projects for the first time in the UK and to discuss the possibilities of a collaboration between art happenings and exhibitions beyond borders. Can communication and cooperation between contemporary art exhibitions from different countries contain added value for the individual events? How can each event help each other communication wise? If you wish to attend, please rsvp to charline.adriaens@bamart.be Chris Dercon in Conversation is a series organised by the Flemish Representation in the UK and Visit Flanders. 2012 will bring the coinciding of important exhibitions of visual art taking place in Flanders, Belgium.www.visualartsflanders2012.be |
