Pipilotti Rist | You Called Me Jacky
Gallery On The Move in collaboration with The Promenade Gallery
Opening September 12, 2012, h 18.00
Until September 18, 2012
Gallery On The Move presents Pipilotti Rist's "You Called Me Jacky" in collaboration with The Promenade Gallery in Vlora. At once playful and disconcerting, "You Called Me Jacky" feature Rist lip-synching to the title song “Edna & Jacky” by Kevin Coyne. Her image superimposed with fleeting images seen from the window of a moving train. Miming with exaggerated gestures or vamping in convincing imitation of star singers, even as she flubs her lines, Rist negotiates the music-film format's claims to slickness and production values as well as its desire for raw authenticity.
Pipilotti Rist was born in 1962 in Grabs. Lives and works between Zurich and Somerset. After studying applied arts, illustration, photography and visual communication in Vienna and Basel, and founding the all-female klezmer pop band Les Reines Prochaines. Nominated for the Guggenheim’s Hugo Boss Prize NYC in 1998, in 2009 she won the Joan Miró Prize, She has also exhibited at Hayward Gallery London, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Fundació Joan Miró Barcelona, KIASMA Helsinki, MOMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, Reina Sofía Madrid, Venice Biennale 2011, 1999, 2005, 1997, 1993, Biennale of Sydney 2008, 2000, Istanbul Biennial 2007, 1999, 1997, Moscow Biennale 2007, Shanghai Biennale 2002, Berlin Biennial 1998, Biennale de Lyon 1997 and São Paulo Biennial 1994.
