Michele Fletcher: Time Spent
Posted on : March 5, 2012 Author : Opus_Art

Opus Fine Art is proud to announce an exhibition of new works by Michele Fletcher. This exciting solo show, entitled Time Spent, showcases a collection of enchanting oil on linen paintings alongside works on paper from Michele Fletcher, an emerging star in the contemporary art world.

Michele Fletcher's new body of work is concerned with a contemporary exploration of the landscape genre, with a focus on a loss of human connection to the natural world. Her current work, informed by urban “wild” spaces that inhabit East London’s parks and overgrown abandoned, areas, reflect an intimacy of space within an urban existence. The viewer peers into a tangle of undergrowth which contains the hint of an opening or entrance, but any figuration or imagery is smothered by foliage. Michele Fletcher is interested in how a direct experience can be mediated through drawing, photography and memory and in turn interpreted, reinvented and embodied in the physicality of painting. Fletcher comments: "My paintings both bemoan and question the possibility of a visionary experience in contemporary painting. Dreamlike spaces of heightened colour take their influence from a variety of sources with the natural world serving as a point of departure for the painting."

Time Spent will be on view to the public at Opus Fine Art from 26 March until 4 May 2012.
